Gear Cluster

Problem:

Customer needs to precisely install a gear cluster into a housing for their gear reduction unit. This was incredibly difficult for the operators due to the weight of the product as well as the tight fit of the gear cluster in the case. Not only was the job difficult causing a slow production pace it also presented a high risk of dropping the part and operator injury.

Solution:

Ergo worked together with plant engineers and operators over the course of a few weeks watching the operation and came up with a clamp style lift assist that sped up production and kept the workers safe. Using a tong to support the gear cluster and a pneumatic gripper to hold the part we were able to lift, tilt, and install the part in less time and with greater precision that was possible by hand.
